Stresses that can cause Fibromyalgia

Posted on 2010-03-31 11:28:38

Let me tell you a bit about Fibromyalgia. I have discovered that it can be caused from physical,  emotional, and chemical stresses.

1) Physical stresses include subluxations (interferences to your nervous system) caused from accidents or poor posture.

2) Emotional traumas can cause not only subluxations and muscle spasms, but also depletion of essential nutrients from your body. These can all lead to chronic pain.

3) Chemical stresses involve toxicities and deficiencies. Tomorrow I will discuss the most common of these nutritional and chemical causes.

FIBROMYALGIA--Do you Have Pain?

Posted on 2010-03-30 06:30:45

Millions of Americans suffer from some type of pain every day. I know many of you reading this right now have pain. You have been to several types of health care providers without success. I'm sure you are tired, frustrated, and at your wits' end.

For the next few weeks, I will be focusing on chronic pain---sometimes called Fibromyalgia. Make no mistake---pain IS real, and there are many reasons why you may be suffering.

I believe that some pains can be brought on by emotional stressors or triggers. Other factors involved can go back all the way to your childhood. Were you a bottle or breastfed baby? There is a difference.

I have learned a lot about pain just by listening to my patients over the years. Tomorrow I'm going to tell you of the leading causes of pain and fibromyalgia.

Tribute to 2 Practice Members

Posted on 2010-03-29 09:05:08

I'd like to talk to you today about two of my practice members who died this month. Both were extremely hard-working, had positive attitudes, were a help and a blessing to many people, and believed greatly in the power of and the need for chiropractic care. It was my pleasure to be their chiropractor for these past 15 or more years. Also noteworthy, both of these practice members exceeded the age of 90!

The first was James Herschel Seal. He died at 90 years old and was known in our office as Mr. Seal. He was a faithful practice member and a good friend for over 15 years. Even into his 80's, Mr. Seal worked harder then most people I know could in their 40's.

The first day I met Mr. Seal, he was in a wheelchair, and he was 75 years old. His commitment and determination to get well and stay well inspired me as young chiropractor. I thank God I had the opportunity to be Mr. Seal's chiropractor.

The other was Buna Edith Weckter, and she was 96 years old. Once, when I was young in practice, I went to talk about health and chiropractic in a meeting at Mrs. Buna's church. I sat a lunch that day with Mrs. Buna and some of her friends as she educated me on the value of the amazing things she had seen in her family with chiropractic care. I went there to educate them, but I got the best education that day. Mrs Weckter used to tell me that she prayed for my hands, and so I thank God for her and her life well lived.

I think success leaves clues, and I think the fact that both of these people lived past 90 years of age was not an accident. I think that we can learn much about health and about life from their example. May God bless their memories and their families as as they mourn.

Salad Serving Suggestions

Posted on 2010-03-25 05:45:50

salad.jpgHere's those salad pointers for the super busy folks!

Remember to eat a salad every night.

When cutting up lettuce, cut up 2 or 3 heads at a time. The salad spinner is your best friend! Put the salad into a large bowl with a tight fitting lid and use paper towels daily to keep the lettuce dry.

Another thing I like to do is to cut up all my favorite commonly used veggies (except tomatoes) and mix them together in a sealed container. Then when it's time to put that salad together, all I have to do is throw my pre-cut greens in the bowl, and toss in those pre-mixed and pre-cut veggies. Voila! A complete salad in seconds! It can be a bit time consuming in the beginning, on the day your prep everything, but oh the time you'll save in the long run!

Be creative with those salads. Here's some ideas for things to add to your lettuce:

1. Pecans, apple slices, and tomatoes.
2. Kidney beans, corn, and veggies.
3. Try putting tuna fish on top of your salad.
4. Cranberries, sunflower seeds, and veggies make an interesting combo.
5. How about some sliced almonds and avocados!

Use your imagination.  Variety is the spice of life!

Using Dry Beans

There are many varieties of dried beans. My favorites are Lima, pinto, black-eyed peas, black beans, and kidney beans.

Try just adding your favorite veggies and some chicken broth with spices to your favorite beans, and you'll have a tasty healthful meal when you're ready to eat.

Black beans and pintos taste great with a couple of cut up tomatoes or 1 can of diced tomatoes.

Remember---Planning ahead helps stop the fast food stops!!!

Tomorrow's tips--how to be super busy and still fit in those daily salads!

You can be busy and still eat healthfully!

crock_pot.jpg

Learn to plan ahead. The night before a very busy day, use your crock pot! Throw in a roast, chicken, dry beans, or just veggies. Put it in the refrigerator. Then plug it in (and turn it on) the next morning before you start your day.

What to put in the pot---

Roast and veggies are good, but just a roast works great because you can enjoy a salad with it if you prefer.

Chicken (boneless and skinless) with onion and bell peppers work well. Try adding sweet potatoes. Be creative, adding veggies you like. Broccoli is one of our favorites.

Perhaps you have a taste for beans? Tune in tomorrow for tips on what to do with dried beans!!

More Facts about High Fructose Corn Syrup

Posted on 2010-03-22 04:49:54

HFCS.jpg  The problem is that U.S. children and adults consume a tremendous amount of high fructose corn    syrup(HFCS), which is totally unhealthy. I heard they are trying to promote that this is a healthy substitute, but I can promise you that there is not one single benefit from it. On the contrary, there are tons of negative health results from HFCS. Sadly, it is found in almost all processed food, especially sweets. It is commonly listed as the first or second ingredient, which means it has the highest percent of content---even in baby formula!!!. If you or your friend have a child on formula, it will generally be dairy-based and will have HFCS, both of which are unhealthy. With the insults on our health continuing from our environment, from our food companies, from chronic stress, posture, causing subluxations, there has never been a time in history when wellness chiropractic care was more needed. So remember---take care of your spine and nervous system, and it will take care of you for the rest of your life!

High Fructose Corn Syrup and Mercury

Posted on 2010-03-17 05:13:06

autism.jpgMercury is a potential neurological toxin. It is very dangerous to the nervous system and especially to children who have developing brains. According to the Journal of Pediatrics, mercury is used to produce thousands of products including food ingredients like high fructose corn syrup. This product enhances the shelf life of processed food, and mercury is used in part as a preservative. In this study, 45% of samples analyzed had significant levels of mercury. The daily exposure of mercury from high fructose corn syrup can exceed the exposure of dental fillings by over a thousand percent. More information tomorrow...

Autism Facts

Posted on 2010-03-16 04:39:14

autism.jpgIn the next couple of days, I want to discuss the epidemic of autism and the connection of mercury to this epidemic. Although denied by the pharmaceutical industry, it's been commonly believed and reported that autism has been linked to mercury that is found in vaccines. The incidence of autism spectrum disorder has increased in the United States in the past decade and is now estimated to occur in one out of every ninety-one U.S. children. This is according to a study in the Journal of Pediatrics. In the same study, they also show causes of exposure to mercury, including food products. Tomorrow, I will discuss high fructose corn syrup.

Eliminate Chronic Pain Symptoms

Posted on 2010-03-15 04:34:59

aspartame.jpgDid you know that removing aspartame and glutamate from the diet for 4 months can eliminate chronic pain symptoms, according to the Journal of Annals of Pharmacology? Aspartame (an artificial sweetener) and glutamate (or MSG) are both neurotoxins and cause increased sensitivity to the nervous system. They are also linked to headaches, cancer, and other health problems. Glutamate (MSG) is disguised or hidden in almost all processed food; so remember to eat food by God not food by man. Aspartame is in diet food, low calorie or low sugar food, diet soda, and such. For a healthy substitute use stevia.

Fish Oil Facts

Posted on 2010-03-11 11:59:39

Did you know, in a study done in the Journal of Surgical Neurology, it was found that of the patients suffering from chronic pain caused by degenerative spinal disease or arthritis, 59% of them eliminated the need for pain drugs by consuming adequate levels of omega 3 essential fatty acid fish oil? As I have said for years now, fish oil is essential for every person, it is a natural anti-inflammatory, and it is absolutely necessary for health and healing. Make sure your fish oil is pure and preserved properly. Unfortunately, up to 40% of the fish oil on the market is rancid and is of no benefit.

Posted on 2010-03-01 04:17:48

Don't Live in Denial

If you occasionally - and that doesn't mean every single day - want a special treat then use my three-bite rule. Take three ladylike bites (even if you're a guy) and then you're done. You will get your taste and not over-indulge in a good thing.
