Surgical masks---Do they really keep out bacteria??

Did you know that the holes in a surgeon's mask are about 100 times the size of the bacteria? How could the mask stop bacteria??! I liken it to a big jet airplane--the hole in the mask is the size of an airplane, and the germs are the size of a football. It's simply a silly medical tradition!
